Gyldendal is Denmark’s oldest publishing house. For more than 250 years, Gyldendal has published some of the most significant literature and stories.

With Christmas just around the corner we have selected some of the loveliest Christmas stories for the whole family to enjoy together in December. Experience Christmas with H.C. Andersen and Astrid Lindgren, or spend a magical Christmas Eve in the Great Hall at Hogwarts with Harry Potter. In the anthology, "Alle tiders bøger vi læser sammen til jul", you will find a wealth of wonderful picture books that we read again and again every year at Christmas: From "Peters Jul" to Cirkeline and Vitello.

Roskilde, Denmark

Right under the roof on the first floor, 6-year-old Ville and 3-year-old Sofus' share a room that radiates warmth, personality and charm.

Their space is divided into two areas: A bedroom for play and sleep, and a landing space, that opens up once you enter the first floor. The landing space has been designed as an area for play including a desk for creativity, homework, and building LEGO.

Both rooms are filled with natural materials, handmade items, cosy lights and colourful textiles, making them feel like one big, soft hug.

Explore this wonderful shared space, that is charming, natural, soft, nostalgic and inviting. And completely its own.

A peek inside the shelf with a wonderful mix of details from the two knitted snowmen, to LEGOs, boxes and the Grimms Star candle holder with a beeswax candle that was lit for the occasion.

Two Christmas stockings made by Barnekammer hang on the side. Explore our handmade, and wonderfully detailed green stocking and red stocking right here.

Cubes placed on the floor make for a shelf on top, where toys and books are stored. Seen here: The Moomin Memory Game, and one small brown suitcase and a large in green.

Seven wonderful Christmas stories by Astrid Lindgren published by Gyldendal. Find the book in Danish here: 'Jul med Astrid Lindgren: Syv skønne julehistorier'.

"Reading to our children is a regular part of our bedtime ritual. It's the most wonderful way to end the day."

– Sofie, Ville and Sofus' mom

A fox papier-mâché mask hangs on the chimney that towers up through the house. Books, drawings and a light garland all add to the cosy atmosphere.

A beautiful kids chair and stool by Piet Hein Eek are placed in the corner. On the stool lies 'Alfons Åberg til julefest'.

A corner of the robot lamp is seen on the shelf.

Entering the 2nd floor, and we are met by a room before the actual bed room, where the floor has been painted in a bright red colour – the 'Jotun standard' colour code 3303.

On the wall, next to posters from Sofie's childhood home and other art, hangs a Christmas Advent Calendar. A wooden guitar is placed on the floor, and a bean rattle doll lies to the right of the staircase.

A snippet of the Christmas Advent Calendar is seen on the wall, while 'Alle tiders bøger - vi læser til jul' is placed in the chair, next to a cute, knitted pink elephant.

A desk is placed here, and this is where Ville and Sofus draw, play and create.

On the table sits a knitted apple by Helle Høgsbro, and next to it; a December postcard. A rug adds softness to the room. Explore our selection here.

The most wonderful, knitted apple on top of a just-as-wonderful drawing. Next to the apple lies the classic book 'Juleeventyr' by H.C. Andersen.

A wooden selection of toys is placed in the corner, including a kitchen and wooden house. Find a similar wooden kitchen here, and the duck lamp, that is placed on the shelf over the kitchen.
