In Denmark, children aged 6 and up have now started school and for many, this is the beginning of a new era. These are new and exciting times, but everything can also feel overwhelming, and maybe even a little scary.

Reading a book together is a wonderful way to talk about the fun and the challenges our children may face during a day at school.

6-year-old Bernard lives with his family in a rented space while they renovate their own house.

Their current apartment is located in a charming shared house, and comes with lots of built-in-details, dark wooden floors.

Bernard's room is the smallest in the apartment, and it is long and narrow leaving few options for decorating. However, it's almost as if it was made for him: One side of the room has a small nook, just big enough to fit his bed, while the other side of the room allows for playing.

Explore this wonderful room with a unique mix of old, new, borrowed and a little something blue.

A rug is placed in front of Bernard's bed, while an open basket is used for all kinds of stuff including toy swords, an umbrella and a soccer ball. Explore smaller storage here.

Bernard just started school, and is now learning the letters of the alphabet. Soon, he'll be reading his first shorts sentences, and after that books such as "Jubii, jeg kan læse" from Gyldendal.

Bernard's bed is tucked into the little nook that is created behind the built-in wardrobe.

On the bed: A year-round soft and temperature-regulating junior down duvet and down pillow from Geismars, clad with bedding from Geismars in a perfect dusty blue colour. On the wall hangs the september postcard from A Year in Postcards.

The dusty blue bedding is soft on the skin, and only gets softer and softer with each wash.

A stool from Piet Hein Eek is used as a side table. On it, a spaceship lamp that adds a warm and soothing light at night time.

A pair of wool indoor shoes are seen on the floor, while Morris the teddy is found on the bed.

Bernard's handmade arrow and bow lie in the window sill next to items collected by a 6-year-old: A dice, a bottle of glue, a game of tumbling tower, two rolls of mt masking tape, and an enamel cup used as storage.
